Our group headed by Professor Silvio Decurtins comprises a lively and
enthusiastic team of young researchers from several different countries. We take advantage of our cultural diversity
and find that this benefits our research and makes working in the laboratory more interesting and fun. Although the
scientific language of our group is English, the language spoken daily in the laboratory can range from German to
French and Chinese.
A part of our research is centered around the field of coordination chemistry. We exploit
the co-ordination geometries of metal ions to direct the self-assembly of inorganic architectures
that convey interesting magnetic and photophysical properties.
Furthermore, we also focus on the design and synthesis of annulated donor-acceptor molecules which
exhibit ambivalent redox-properties.
If you are interested and would like to join the team then contact Professor S. Decurtins for

The following researchers in the group make this chemistry possible
(last update: October 14, 2014):
Lecturer / Research Assistant
- Dr. Shi-Xia Liu from the Lanzhou University, China. A former Humboldt-Fellow from the University of Siegen, Germany
Angela Liuyi Wang, our youngest group member, was born on June 15, 2009
- Luis-Manuel Mateo from the University of Berne, Switzerland
We still keep contact with some of our former Postdoctoral, PhD and Diploma students or technicians and with former visiting researchers.
